Back to School

Mindmap

Very limited entertainment value in this post but I wanted to share this anyway. Homework (at the end of term!) is to come up with ideas about how we'd like to learn about Beatrix Potter next year in P5. With the help of Mum and Dad we did a mindmap. Might be difficult to make out but here it is anyway because we're all quite impressed with our efforts. It helped us give a whole bunch of ideas for next term.

Biscuit Design

Today was my school summer fayre and Mummy was there with a stall selling kitchen equipment so Daddy had the joy of following me around with my friend Laura. There was lots to see and do including a bouncy castle, pony rides and a treasure hunt. But here's a picture of the biscuit I decorated for Laura. She decorated one for me and they tasted amazing!

A Night without Mum and Dad

This week, our class at school spent a night away at the Low Port Centre in Linlithgow. It's a real event and the school do it as part of our maturing from the infants section (P1 to P3) to the seniors. I've been excited about it for ages and Mum's been worried about it almost as long!

We packed one of Dad's old gym bags (I say 'old' but it looked like it had never been used to me. He must have really looked after it while attending the gym for all that time he paid his membership). Once packed it was really stuffed and heavy. Mum said I should get a suitcase with wheels but Dad insisted his son wasn't going away for 1 night with one of those. Mum had to carry it to school for me because it was so heavy and then she complained about her sore shoulder all day afterwards.

We went to school as normal and left on the bus at lunch time. Mum had a physio appointment (about her shoulder!) so wasn't going to be able to see me off but Dad snuck out of work for a long lunch to come see. As usual, I was last to leave the school. All of my classmates left to get on the bus before me. All of them, every single one of them, pulling a suitcase on wheels. And then I stomped out with this really heavy bad on my back!

I was with my friend, George, who I'd be sharing a room with. He had a trunki with wheels but was insisting on carrying it. George is noticeably bigger than me and he was moaning about the weight so I had a go. I still had my bag over one shoulder and took a grip of his in my free hand, only to report "I don't know what you're complaining about, you should feel mine!"

Mum arrived just in time to see the bus pull away and that was it until after school the next day. I had an amazing time, it was gorgeous weather, punctuated by a bit of thunder and lightening. We went out in a boat on Linlithgow Loch; did some stuff with the rangers; played games on the peel; had a Low Port's Got Talent contest (I didn't win) and went to Beecraigs park.

I'm already looking forward to P7 when we get to go away for a week. And Mum's already worried about it!

My Timeline

We had to produce a timeline for school showing major landmarks in our life since we were born. Daddy suggested I just write http://pocuter.blogspot.com on mine and hand it in but since he didn't start this until after I was two I didn't think it would be good enough so I made my own! I was grateful that this blog was here for me to get accurate dates of when lots of things happened, however.

Here's a picture of what I produced - I hope you can see it OK. I think my drawings are better than Dad's photography!

School Shorts!

It's sunny! No one can believe it! I'm wearing shorts - see if you can stop me!

School Bear

Klaus the bear came home from school to stay with me today. He's here visiting from Germany and a different person takes him home every day. We show him what we do and write in his journal. He was lucky to come to me on a Thursday as there's *loads* I do every Thursday (lucky for him but not for me as it took forever to write it all in his journal!).

First we did my homework.

Then we built my new Lego.

Then we practiced gymnastics before I had to go to my class.

Then we went to gymnastics class (I made sure he had his seatbelt on).

And then it was home for dinner before bed.

In the morning, we had breakfast and I filled in his journal. It was a lot of fun having him stay but I won't miss having to fill out that journal - this blog is hard enough to keep up-to-date!

Soap Making

It's so very nearly Christmas. Only 4 more days of school - and that's assuming we're not snowed off again (which is looking increasingly likely)! So time to get presents for my teachers sorted. And this year they'll be getting soap. Because they all smell really bad! No, not really. But Mummy and me have made this soap ourselves. It smells lovely and has stars inside it!

School Nativity

It was our school nativity today. Thankfully the school was able to open to allow us to perform it. It was called "A Snowman at Sunset" and wasn't your traditional Jesus in a manger nativity. We had a lot of fun and did really well given we've spent 6 of the last 7 school days stuck at home and so not had much rehearsal. All the parents enjoyed it and Daddy managed to grab a few photos of me.

Presents for Teachers

It's the end of my first year at primary school. Mummy and Daddy have said it's been far too fast and they can't believe it's over. Mummy and me have made these excellent gifts for my teachers. They're lucky people... To have spent the year with me!

The Measure of Coolness

I was chatting to Daddy at breakfast this morning and I informed him that I was the second smallest boy in class. He told me that I was the coolest, though, but they don't have a way to measure coolness. So I told him that they could measure cool with winks and gave him a big wink! This is a picture he took after school but he says my wink in the morning was much better.

Report Card 2010

Got my report card today. Obviously the scores are excellent but I need the teacher-types that read this blog to decode the stuff my teacher has said...

"Edan quickly settled into the school environment and he has had a successful year in Primary 1. He is a cheerful, caring child and he has developed good friendships with other children. He usually works conscientiously although he has, on occasion, required some support with staying on task and following the school rules, especially during independent activity times. Edan is a confident speaker in all class situations and he is keen to talk about his ideas with others. He effectively contributes to discussions and he answers questions thoughfully. Edan is an enthusiastic reader, who reads aloud confidently and expressively. He often chooses to read books in the story corner. He demonstrates a good understanding of stories, in both oral and written activities, and he is now reading a wider-range of texts, including non-fiction. Edan has original ideas for writing and he can construct sentences independently. He can spell familiar words and is developing his skills in spelling new words for himself, which gives him great satisfaction. Edan has coped very well with the mathematical concepts covered and he works independently to complete tasks. Edan has shown great interest in all our topics and he has contributed his imaginative ideas to the development of these. School Summer Fair

It was my school summer fair today and it was a *lot* of fun! Bouncy castle, barbecue, treasure hunt, tombola, police car and ponies. I played with the siren in the police car a lot - until they threatened to lock me in the back! There weren't many boys could get away with the pink hat but it looks really good on me, right?!

Grandparents' Day

Today we had Grandparents' Day at school. I invited my grandparents to come visit me at school. Granny and Grandad came. I wouldn't like it if they didn't come to it. I loved it. I showed them around my classroom, including our time machine and our outside toilet - both made of cardboard! Then we sung them some songs. Everyone appeared to have a great time.

Sports Day

It was sports day at school today. Mummy and Daddy came along to see me take part. I was third in the space hopper race and Daddy says I had the longest jump in the team jump competition. Unfortunately, some of the others in my team didn't jump quite so far so we only finished third in that too. It was a really good day though and we had lots of fun.

Top Reading Award

Check me out! We had our Friday assembly at school today and I got an award! It's an Achievement Award for "reading aloud confidently and with expression. Well done!" How cool is that. I'd just like to thank my mum and dad for supporting me. And for the Academy for recognising my brilliance.
