Stirling Castle

We went to Stirling Castle today. It was great. They happen to have a few folk there at the moment putting on displays and stuff and they let me practice with a shield - no chance for Daddy to get the better of me with that! There's quite a lot of rooms and nooks and crannies to explore - even though it's still largely intact. In fact, we almost tested the Stirling Fire Brigade but I was able to remove my head from bars eventually. Stirling Castle also has probably the best view of all the castles we've been to this past 12 months.

Speaking of all the castles, a quick count-up of all the stamps in the back of our Historic Scotland book suggests we've been to 12. The new book is here and we'll see if we can see at least as many in the next 12 months - although I suspect a few will be repeat visits. But that's OK - most of them are well worth another siege.

Anyway, back to Stirling. After beating Mummy on the battlements, I made friends with a nice man on the way out of the castle and we had a long talk about how he'd been visiting a few castles - including Ruthven Barracks near Granny and Grandpa's house - where the castle fighting started - hey! That's means we've been to 13, right (they don't stamp your book there)?

Fence painting again

Mummy wants to plant some climbing plants on the fence between us and our neighbours but Daddy says she'll need to paint the fence first. So she dragged us all to B&Q and bought a *lot* of paint and then made me help her. She obviously hadn't learned from Daddy's last effort. I actually had more fun this time around as you can see. I played in the paint and then painted handprints on the fence!

But then I got bored. And also Mummy decided she didn't like the colour. And Daddy suggested that maybe the fence was in a worse condition than he thought and we need to replace it all anyway. So for now, my handprints are still there! And the plants Mummy bought are still in their pots...

Elcho Castle

Today, as part of a treat for my birthday and a treat for Auntie Lesley, we went to Elcho Castle. It's about an hour away from here on the road to Granny and Grandpa's where Auntie Lesley and Uncle Roger were going.

It's a great castle, extremely well preserved with lots of rooms, stairs and toilets. In fact, it's got more toilets than all the other toilets from all the other castles we've seen and blogged about put together.

Importantly, it's got room for FIGHTING! And this time Auntie Lesley was my opponent:

As you can see, I soon got the better of her. Girls are easy to beat!

And since I won, she knighted me. Just call me Sir Edanius from now on please!

Fifth Birthday!

Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me!

I'm FIVE! And what a great day it's been. Auntie Lesley and Uncle Roger were here for my birthday and I got loads of presents - Daddy says it was like Christmas rather than birthday. After a morning of opening and playing with presents we went with Auntie and Uncle Roger to Elcho Castle (see later post) and then on the way home, stopped by Frankie and Benny's to have some food with Gran, Grandad, Auntie Vikki, Uncle Ian and cousin Dylan!

It's almost my perfect day. Could probably only have been better if I'd played computer games for a while.

Birthday Party

I had my birthday party today! My birthday isn't until Friday but what with next week being Easter weekend and all we had the party today. It was great fun! We played in the softplay for an hour and spent as much of that time as possible tormenting Daddy - superb! Then we had some food and played games. Only one person got physically hurt - which was good I thought: some of the other kids have horror stories to tell about their parties around the water cooler at nursery. A few folk were emotionally hurt when they didn't win prizes - so immature!

I had an abosolutely fab time though and scored LOADS of presents that were all really good. Can't wait for actual birthday now!
